New Lines.

I’m currently putting together a package of the poems I’ve written in the past year or so for submission. Here I have a go at working out why the task is so daunting and also, somewhat paradoxically, why writing poetry is still pretty much the best thing you can do without breaking the law or your hips.

Explaining Tropic.

In this post, I write a thousand or so words explaining a poem which is about thirty words long with no punctuation except for a single, solitary full stop. Clearly following the maxim that less is more, I left everything out of the poem, and then ruined it by putting it all back into the essay. Ezra Pound (who spent years reducing his 'In a Station of the Metro' to fourteen words) would be SPITTING. Anyway, this is the third in my twelve blogs of Christmas. I'll be doing one a day till the 22nd, and then I'll bow out. Hope you enjoy this one.

Hope you like it, or, if you don't, it doesn't make you spew up in your lap.

Breathless.

Here’s a piece about why writers hold their breath or something. I don’t know what it’s about, to be honest, as I was on laudanum when I wrote it. I swear I saw Xanadu, and fricking Olivia Newton-John was there in her roller skates. It was absolutely wicked.
