New Lines.
Friday, December 14, 2012 at 11:01AM I’m currently putting together a package of the poems I’ve written in the past year or so for submission. Here I have a go at working out why the task is so daunting and also, somewhat paradoxically, why writing poetry is still pretty much the best thing you can do without breaking the law or your hips.

This is, I am reliably informed, a true story. But you wouldn't think so. Indeed, you wouldn't expect anything so wholly preposterous to happen outside a comedy sketch or a joke told down the pub. That made me wonder how our hearts can lead us down such strange paths, to such sad ends.
Here’s a piece about why writers hold their breath or something. I don’t know what it’s about, to be honest, as I was on laudanum when I wrote it. I swear I saw Xanadu, and fricking Olivia Newton-John was there in her roller skates. It was absolutely wicked.
